UCF Metro presents an hour-long documentary edition about young people born in 1982 or after...not GenX...not GenY...people are calling them "the Millennials." They've gotten a lot of attention ever since two authors, William Strauss and Neil Howe, dubbed them "the next great generation." We'll talk to them about their research and offer the stories of Millennials coming of age here in Central Florida. Do they really have what it takes to deal with the many political, environmental and cultural issues that are reaching the crisis point? We'll let you decide.

Dr. Stella Sung is one of UCF's hidden treasures, although she's won national awards and received international recognition for her music compositions. Our program will feature a performance of one of her newest pieces by Assistant Professor of Music Eladio Scharron. We'll also learn about an exciting new project in which Dr. Sung is collaborating with Art Professor Rob Reedy and his sculpture students to develop a section of the new Hard Rock Theme Park going up in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Remember good old-fashioned westerns? Hollywood doesn’t make them much anymore. But who could forget john wayne… the wild frontier… covered wagons… and outlaws. Director john ford helped create the mythology of the american west with the movies he made between 1939 and 1964… on location in the desert southwest. U-c-f film professor phil peters decided to take his students to the scenery this past summer. Our program describes their adventure, including what was learned and experienced and how the study of film can teach all of us many things about our history, our culture, and ourselves.

Former Orange County Mayor Linda Chapin hosts UCF METRO WITH LINDA CHAPIN on WMFE Channel 24. Each of the thirty-minute programs focus on how the University of Central Florida is helping to build a better community. UCF METRO WITH LINDA CHAPIN blends on-set panel discussion with videotaped reports and features produced by UCF students.
Florida State Representative Dean Cannon, whose district encompasses the University of Central Florida and who will serve as House Speaker in 2010, joins Linda Chapin on UCF Metro. Topics of discussion include the approval of the new medical college, enhanced funding for education, and "100 Innovative Ideas for Florida's Future," an appeal to citizens to contribute ideas for consideration by the Florida legislature.

We'll take a look inside a showcase for service learning students and we'll show you how co-op learning is helping both students and local businesses. On this edition of UCF Metro, we'll take a look at the Board of Governors meeting that changed the face of UCF. We'll also examine a potentially critical healthcare shortage that is looming on the horizon. We'll also examine the economic impact of a medical college and the research it encourages on our area.
